Locating Your Books

If you are currently registered, our online system generates a list of your course books and materials after you enter your login and password. If no books are listed for your course it means we have not received them. Please check back later and place another order when the books become available.

If your are not currently registered, or want to add courses to the list manually, you can uses the search by Department, Course, or Author option and select your titles.

Selecting Your Preferences for New or Used Books

After selecting your preferences for new or used titles in your order, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the "Go Check Out" button.The items you selected are in your virtual shopping cart. You may go back and search for additional books using the "Back to Store" button or you can remove books from your list using the "Remove" button.

Checking Out

When you are satisfied with your order select the "Check Out" button. At this point, provide your:

  • Name
  • Address
  • E-mail
  • Phone
  • Alternate shipping information if different from your permanent address.
  • Remember, once we receive your order the address can not be changed.
  • Additional comments or instructions

When the required information is complete, click on the "Go to Confirm" button.

Payment

Review your order and select your billing option. Your credit card will not be billed until we ship your order. Your credit card is safe with us. Please verify you entered the correct credit card number and expiration date, and that your card has not expired. Be sure to key in all 16-digits. If your credit card is declined, we will delete your order. We accept the following forms of payment:

  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • Discover
  • American Express
  • U Card Student Account

Order Information

Two confirmation e-mails will be sent from the Bookstore. The first e-mail confirms our receipt of your order. Please review this confirmation to ensure the books you ordered are actually listed. If you do not see your books listed you will need to place your order again. The second e-mail will be sent when your order ships. Any changes to your order will be noted on your receipt.

If you have questions on your order, please reference the 5-digit number located on the upper left of your order form. Please reference this number in all correspondence with us.

Receiving Your Order

Please open your order as soon as it arrives.

Your order will contain a customer receipt detailing the contents of your order and a customer service information sheet.

Customer Service

If you have questions or problems with your order:

  • Please call a Bookstore customer service representative at (612) 625-6000 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday,
  • or e-mail textweb@umn.edu. Please provide us with your name, phone number, order number and how we can assist you.

Important Shipping Information

  • Your order will be shipped UPS ground to the address provided under "Shipping Information". Address changes cannot be made once the order is placed. Please make sure you've entered the correct shipping address before submitting your order.
  • Please make sure your shipping address is entered correctly. Incorrect or incomplete addresses could result in an additional charge.
  • Orders can not be shipped to P.O. box addresses.
  • Please enter the name of your residence hall, the street address and room number if you are having your order shipped to your residence hall. If you are unable to locate your textbook order, please check at the hall's front desk. In many cases front desk staff will sign for your package.
  • All online orders are shipped UPS. There is no pick-up option available. If you don't want to pay for shipping and handling costs you will need to come to the Bookstore to purchase your books. Gopher Books Online orders are shipped within 2-4 days. .
  • A shipping and handling fee of $4.95 for the first book and $1.50 for each additional book is added to all orders as a non-refundable shipping & handling charge.

Substitutions

The Bookstores will make every effort to fill your order with your new or used book preference, but we reserve the right to substitute new books for used books or used books for new books on your order. Substitutions will ONLY occur if we are out of stock on your preference. If an item is substituted, you will be charged for the item shipped, not the item ordered. If you are not satisfied with the books you receive you may return it within the parameters of the Bookstores return policy.

All orders are processed quickly so changes or deletions can not be made once the order is placed.

Returns

If you need to return a book from your order, you may bring it to the CMU Bookstore during the first two weeks of the term (one week for intersession and summer session textbook returns), or ship it back to us within that time frame. Books can be returned to the Bookstore or shipped back if they meet the following criteria:

  • Books must be in the same condition they were shipped in to receive full credit.
  • Books must be returned within the time constraints for the term to get a full refund.
  • Shipping costs associated with the return will not be credited unless a Bookstore error caused the return.
  • A copy of the packing slip must be included in the return in order to receive credit.
  • We will credit the same account that was charged
